In 2006, during a journey in Litang, Global Roots volunteer Travis Gearhart encountered Genden Punslok. He learnt that Genden devotes great effort and commitment into helping poor children. "I teach classes during the day, and after the school, I continue to teach children in my office. I choose the children who have the most problems and are from poor families." Travis immediately recognized a local humanitarian with whom Global Roots could partner.
Global Roots established a supply mission to provide books and games to help Genden’s students learn English. A secondary objective of the mission was to establish the feasibility of setting up a vocational school in Litang.

Next Project and Opportunities
Research indicates that it will be complex to set up a vocational school without sufficient government support. Global Roots continues to research and build relationship with government officials in Beijing. We need the government’s support before "officially" helping Genden and kicking off the vocational school project.
Please contact us if you can assist with this project. We are interested in your ideas and experience.
