Join us to protect, educate, and empower threatened children in global hot spots
Every girl deserves the chance to grow, learn, and shape her own future — free from harm, free to dream. Together, we can protect girls from violence and open the doors of education so they can thrive.
Our Mission
Global Roots is dedicated to protecting vulnerable children while ensuring they receive nutrition, education and emotional support. Through community-driven solutions, we create a future where every child thrives.
Stolen Childhoods
Across rural Kenya, our work is helping girls escape Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), stay in school, and reclaim their futures—with legal protection, boarding school tuition, safe shelter during school vacations and year-round mentorship.
Hunger & Instability
In times of crisis, hunger pushes children out of classrooms and into dangerous situations. Our School Garden programs feed both bodies and minds—ensuring every child can learn without being exploited or going hungry.
Lack of Protection
Without safe spaces, vulnerable children face violence, exploitation and fear. Global roots provides shelters, mentorship, and round-the-clock protection—creating environments where children can feel safe and supported
Afghanistan — Harvesting Hope
A hungry child cannot learn. Our programs combine education with nourishment. Through school gardens and local agriculture, we provide fresh food to children and their families.
Why We Do What We Do
Global Roots exists to protect children in crisis – whether it's an Afghan girl defying a school ban or a Maasai girl running from FGM – because we believe every young girl deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to dream freely.
“You can silence a classroom, but not a child’s will to learn.”
Wahaj, Girl’s Education Coordinator, Afghanistan
“When we rescue a girl, we also free generations after her.”
Mary Keruta, FGM Survivor & Girls’ Mentor, Kenya
“This work isn’t about charity, it’s about justice where the world had looked away.”
Rick Montgomery, Global Roots Founder
Kenya — From Rescue to Resilience
Saving a girl is just the beginning – keeping her in school is the key to her future. Through educational funding, safe housing, mentorship and outreach, we break the circle of harm and open doors to opportunity.
The Legal Letter and Holiday Check-in Initiative
For the Maasai girls in our program, a legal letter is a powerful shield that stands between them and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriage. When schools close for holidays, our holiday check-in program ensures they are safe. FGM persists because it only takes a parent ten days to secretly cut their daughter. A legal letter will remind each parent that FGM is jailible offense in Kenya while also making it clear to them that their daughter is being monitored by Global Roots. Our holiday check-ins make it impossible for any given parent to make their daughter disappear for ten days so that they can subject her to FGM.
